Salvation Definitions 1. Thayers Lexicon: Deliverance from the molestation of enemies. 2. Greek English Lexicon: Welfare, prosperity, deliverance, and preservation, from temporal of evils. 3. Strong’s Concordance: Rescue or safety, deliver, health, salvation, save, saving. A. Man is a sinner 1. Conceived in sin Psalm 51: 5. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Inherits sin nature of Adam and Eve. *Sin causes spiritual death. Separation from God. 2. All have sinned Romans 3: 23. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God B. Sacrifice for our sins. John 3: 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. C. Man must be born-again John 3: 3. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Titus 3: 5. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit; D. Salvation is a free gift Ephesians 2: 8-9 8. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. E. Jesus is the only way John 14:6 15. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. 1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; F. How to be saved 1. Repent (change way of thinking, make an about face, make a 180 degree turn Mark 1 15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2. Pray and receive Christ Romans 10 9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Must base salvation on God’s Word, not feelings 2 Corinthians 5 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight G. How new creatures in Christ 2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. H. Received gift of eternal life 1 John 5 11: And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. I. If you have sin, confess to God 1 John 5: 11: And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. Confess sins to God 1 John 19 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. One of the major reasons for a person backsliding is for being unequally-yoked 2 Corinthians 6 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? E. Lead in prayer of rededication of life. F. Introduce Baptism with Holy Spirit. A.
