Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock, The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back that was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them.” Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! Says the Lord.” Ezekiel 34: 1 –4 Jeremiah 23: 1 Hear what the prophets Ezekiel and Jeremiah had to say to the bad pastors of their time. To all those who instead of looking for the interest of God where looking for their own interest, hear what the prophets have to say to the bad pastors of today. Just as those pastors of yesterday were filling their belly and were living comfortably, so do many pastors of our days do the same? While hundreds of millions of people in the world live in poverty and misery, the live in abundance and luxury. This is an untruthful testimony. A real pastor must share what God gives him and he must absolutely live a simply, otherwise he will fall into the devil’s trap and somehow or another he destroys God’s work. What are our pastors doing in a big comfortable houses, while the Christ had nowhere to lay his head? If at least they would open their doors to welcome into their houses people who are in need of spiritual help! In fact, the Acts of the Apostles are teaching us that the first Christians were living in community. Certainly this means that several of them were living under the same roof, and therefore they were learning to share and to forget themselves for one another, etc… Why don’t the pastors of today put that a practice? Because they to much carnal and they don’t seek for the interest of God, They are afraid of the life in community, because it demands too much of renunciation; also it puts to light our weaknesses, our sins and who we really are and it pushes us to sanctify and purify ourselves sincerely. Not only are many pastors wealthy, but also they preach in big and beautiful temples or churches, which also brings an untruthful testimony for God. Do you think it’s a glory for the pastor to preach in such a place? It’s not a glory but a shame. Anyway, God does not dwell in temples made with hands. We are HIS temple when He’s in out life, and it is “that” house that we have to take good care of. King Solomon built for God a temple of beauty and splendour never matched in all the history of man. Nevertheless, he died in sin. Let this be to all of us a serious example. But what is worst with these temples or churches, beside Sundays, they almost all the time half empty if it is a small church, what is the use to build big and expensive temples, that are locked up during most of the week days and are only used on Wednesday and Sunday for just a few hours. Not only most of the pastors are not there during the week, but also the big majority of these churches are lifeless. Nothing there happens; No one is there to welcome people who need help. First of all, a pastor must live in his church; a church is a sheepfold, not a funeral home! It has to be a spiritual home and refuge for the lost and sick souls. Secondly, what stops the pastors to be surrounded by Christians committed full time in the work of God? It would create a real community in the church, they would also support him in his work and be there permanently to feed and help spiritually all those who come. The most serious reproach of the prophets toward the bad pastors is having neglected and forsake the sheep’s that God had confided them. And it’s unfortunately true. Our world is full of pastors who do not look after the sheep’s. A pastor’s work is very simply: he has to look after souls. It was for that reason that he gave his life and it is the only thing that counts for God. Not because a church is filled on Sunday that it means necessarily that the pastor takes good care of the sheep. This cannot be done on a few hour weekly bases. It’s a daily work. He has to encourage them, correct them and warn. He must feed them and teach them in the word of God regularly. He must be able to make solid Christians capable to fight against the devil. He must teach them self-discipline for God to learn verses by heart, to evangelize as often as possible, to pray and fast. In other words, he must follow his sheep very close so that they can grow in faith and that they don’t fall again in the hands of the devil. How many pastors doe's all that? God had never said neither that a pastor has to wait for sheep’s in his church. Doesn’t he rather have to go seek for them where they are – streets, in parks, in houses; and why not in bars and night clubs were so many are dying so many lost and unhappy souls? The Christ himself was doing it!! In his time, people were calling Him gluttonous and a winebibber because he was hanging with prostitutes, drunkards, and all kinds of outcast people, and he did evangelize them. How many pastors carry these burdens of souls? How many go evangelize regularly in the streets? How many of them form the believers of their church to go evangelize too? “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.” Corinthians 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edified. Yes, we can have all the diplomas of the world, the knowledge, the intelligence, we could be a gifted speaker, but if our heart is not filled with love of God and for the souls, we are nothing else but “a dead tree”, or a clanging symbol, something that makes noise but does not produce any thing for God. Turn your eyes towards the Christ and take a look to the example He left you; He denied Himself and died of His sheep’s. He carried His cross until the end. “ Everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6: 40) A pastor that seeks to imitate his master will become at the same time and example for his faithful. And this is what a pastor has to be anyways, a model in all things, for these who are surrounding him; an example to the believers in the word, In conduct in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (Timothy 4:12) In the epistle of Timothy, Paul even says that must be irreproachable for God calls us into godliness. A pastor who plays with sin cuts the contact God. God does not reveal himself to someone who lives in sin. Sin ties us up spiritually and this is why a lot of pastors don’t have the strength to cry out loud for justice. Nevertheless, this is what God is asking them. They are dumb dogs, they cannot bark; because of the sin. The are incapable to rebuke evil around them and they are lacking in their task of a shepherd. The Christ died because he was rebuking the bad works of people. How many pastors are suffering persecution because they are saying truths? Humiliate yourself before God and recognize your condition. Do not despise prophecies. Take the time to listen to the people who want to talk to you. Go evangelize, sound the trumpet! Does not wisdom cry out on the streets Proverbs 8:1 We must warn the people of what is coming up and we must prepare ourselves. God will judge humanity very soon. Be of good cheer, shepherd the flock of God “and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away” 1 Peter 5: 4.
